Korean Superstar in the making!
11-year-old actress Sohyeon is determined to shine bright at the top of K-Entertainment and works hard to build up her on-screen dream, and in doing so, learns to stand up to the harsh rules and limits set on young female talents in the Korean mainstream media.
Sohyeon is an 11-year-old Korean actress determined to shine bright at the top of K-Entertainment, which has taken the world by storm. She dreams of becoming the next on-screen sensation, just like her idol Jun Ji-hyun.
With her ecstatic image, Sohyeon garners appearances in numerous commercials and TV roles. The type of roles given, however, are very limited - a young, naive girl complementary only to the older protagonists and their storyline.
That is about to change as she celebrates her 12th birthday, marking the beginning of her puberty but more importantly granting her the legal right to sign a long-term labor contract with the entertainment agencies. With that, she may finally graduate from the simpler child roles and challenges for more mature, complicated screen presence. At the same time, the young actress also faces the mounting pressure to conform to the strict Korean beauty ideal, which encourages minors to even go as far as having plastic surgeries.
But Sohyeon isn’t afraid to say “no,” just like ‘The Girl’ in My Sassy Girl, a free-spirited heroine whose unapologetic character sets her own terms, played by none other than her hero, Jun Ji-hyun.
